Default Fix the Customize Notifications dialog box in XP

Should you lose the icons in the Notification Taskbar (where the clock is, usually bottom right of your screen) such as volume icon etc and are unable to reinstate them through 'Taskbar and Start Menu Properties ( right click on Start > Taskbar tab > Notification area > check 'Hide inactive icons > Customize > select icons to show and > drop down to 'Always show > OK. If this does not work try:

In the "Run" box on the 'Start Menu' or a 'Command prompt' window copy and paste the following command:

    reg ADD HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer /v
    EnableAutoTray /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

(Ensure that the command starts with 'reg' and ends with '/f') click > OK

....this will set the 'Hide Inactive Icons' option to 'unchecked'. Reboot to activate this command.
