Hi,

I had a virus back in november, partly the beautiful downadup plusa few other bits tut. All fixed by googling for answers. Then about three weeks ago my windows update started to fail.
Now i know a little bit about pc's and what i dont know i tend to search for. So I made numerous attempts to fix this using microsoft help sites, reregistering all dll's and changing catroot folder names etc etc. Three weeks on and im still nowhere.
I used my virus scanners and malware scanners, clean. I thought I might submit a hijack this log (the first time I have ever been beaten to the point of doing so) when i came across your site and the detective. This showeda few obsolete entrys but advised me to send it on to the forrum.
Whether this is malware related I have no idea but worth a shot before I go formatting.
Thanks for your site and your offer of help.

Regards

Gary

Hello Gary, welcome to H2G.

C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\guard.exe

Besides the issue of running two antivirus the AVG 7.5 version is no longer supported so it is not able to give proper protection. I suggest uninstalling it now.

Quote:
The real-time protection of two antivirus programs may conflict with each other and cause the following:

* False Alarms: When the anti virus software tells you that your PC has a virus when it actually doesn't.
* Conflicts: Your system may lock up due to both products attempting to access the same file at the same time.
* Performance: More that one antivirus will cause your PC to become slow and it may even crash or blue screen.
* Less protection: Two antivirus trying to scan the same file may interfere with the process and allow a malicious file onto the computer without notice to you.
-----

Is this still necessary since you have already cleaned the Bagel infection?

Other than that everything in the log looks OK. Running a full virus scan with an online scanner might not hurt. A good second opinion is sometimes revealing.

Scan with Panda ActiveScan

This scanner requires Internet Explorer

  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC now button
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Select the appropriate Yes or No to receiving marketing information
  • Click the Free Online Scan button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.

Post the contents of the ActiveScan report in your next reply.

Default Further info and thanks

Hi evil,
Thank you for a very prompt response.
Im afraid I created the hijack this log while I was using both avg and bagel scanners so the processes you saw there are not normaly running. I use avg just for a backup scanner not real time protection. The bagel killer I just ran on the off-chance it might have a miracle solution. It didnt lol.
OK I will go and try panda active and see what it throws up. I will post soon.

Thanks again

Gary

AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 should be uninstalled. Outdated databases are as good as no database at all...
