Just tried to boot again. It says the volume is dirty. It starts to run CHKDSK. Part one (verifying the files) passes ok, it's the second part (veryfying the indexes) that fails

    FYI

The STOP 0xC000021A error occurs when either Winlogon.exe or Csrss.exe fails. When the Windows NT kernel detects that either of these processes has stopped, it stops the system and raises the STOP 0xC000021A error. This error may have several causes. Among them are the following:

Mismatched system files have been installed.
A Service Pack installation has failed.
A backup program that is used to restore a hard disk did not correctly restore files that may have been in use.
An incompatible third-party program has been installed.
How to troubleshoot a "STOP 0xC000021A" error

Just supplying information, don't do any instruction on the website.

Back to the advanced boot options menu

This time can you select Safe Mode see if the computer is stable there.

Have you added any software or made any changes to the computer prior to this problem?

In safe mode, I get what looks like a list of drivers then it stops but the disk light is still showing activity.

No changes, we have been getting the blue screens periodically but today we are having this problem. The last thing that was done (a few days ago though) was the virtual memory paging size was changed to system determined

    Hi,

It looks like you have a dirty bit set, something I'm unfamiliar with. So I'm going to supply just some information for you. It's very possible as you indicated that the drive is bad. Sector or Index, it appears the file structure remains in good shape....

A volume can be marked dirty if the system suffered a power interruption (power failure, plug pulling, battery removal, power button), aborted restart or ungraceful shutdown . Have any of those events occurred?
chkdsk keeps running and rebooting - Geeks to Go Forums

The above link is where this problem was dealt with, just so you can see it.

I'd like to confer with some others too about this.

Well, we did have a power cut today but we had this problem before that. Plus, we have turned the power off a few times where it has failed to start

    Conclusion
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1 crash dumps have been found and analyzed.
Read the topic general suggestions for troubleshooting system crashes for more information.

Note that it's not always possible to state with certainty whether a reported driver is actually responsible for crashing your system or that the root cause is in another module. Nonetheless it's suggested you look for updates for the products that these drivers belong to and regularly visit Windows update or enable automatic updates for Windows. In case a piece of malfunctioning hardware is causing trouble, a search with Google on the bug check errors together with the model name and brand of your computer may help you investigate this further.
