HJT Evaluation
Hi guys. Just wondering if someone could take a look at my log here. My system has just been really dogging lately, and I'm thinking that it has something to do with some of the sites that my daughters are visiting (They're young, they like things like "webkinz" and "cartoonnetwork" etc). Anyway, the amount of time it takes to load up even a simple page is reminiscent of my old dial up days.
I know my computer's a little old; so i'm sure that's working against me too, but if we could rule out anything else, i'd appreciate it.

Hi there Zep, no worries on the delay, I know there are bigger problems out there than a dogging system.
I was slightly confused regarding the instructions there, was I supposed to disconnect from the internet only if scripting issues prevented it from running? if so, here's the notepad doc that was created when i ran it.
The tool has been deleted from the desktop as well.
.
UNLESS SPECIFICALLY INSTRUCTED, DO NOT POST THIS LOG.
IF REQUESTED, ZIP IT UP & ATTACH IT

Thanks
One question though,
System Up time: 8/23/2012 4:57:32 PM (33 hours ago) Wow do you ever turn the computer off ? Restarting windows refreshes ram and helps to make it run a bit better.. Perhaps it's just been on for a while, no biggie
We have some up dating to do here to.. And a few left over Norton files, I do assume they are left overs, and you're using Avast as your Anti Virus Program.
Lets up-date some
First
Please download JavaRa from here http://sourceforge.net/project/downl...mirror=osdnand unzip it to your desktop.
- Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program. (Windows Vista users Right-click JavaRa.exe > Select Run as Administrator)
- Click on Remove Older Versions to remove older versions of Java.
- A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location.
Post the log created.
NEXT
Updating Java :
- Download the latest version of Java SE Runtime Environment 7 u 6 .
- Click the "Download JRE" button to the right.
- Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement.".
- Click on the link to download (Windows x86 Offline) Installation ( jre-7-windows-i586.exe) and for your Platform, and save it to your desktop. Do NOT use the online download. Your link is the second to the last one at the bottom of that confusing mess of links

- Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
- Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
- Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
- Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
- Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
- Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
- Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.(Vista users, right click on the jre-7-windows-i586.exe and select "Run as an Administrator.")
Next
Up-date your Adobe reader from HERE Please Un-check McAfee Security scan before downloading Adobe. It's just something you don't need.
Let me know when those things are up-dated.

I usually just drop the computer into standby, when i'm done with it for the day, but I was away on business for two days, and I'm assuming that my wife hasn't shut it down. I'll make sure I let her know (just for the sheer energy waste if anything).
You're correct on Norton and Avast (norton's been gone for years, with Avast being my prefered).
Thank you for your time Joe. It is appreciated.

Here are the following programs that I attempted to delete;
Java 2 Runtime Environment. se v1.4.2_03
Java Auto Updater
Java(TM) 6 update 29.
When I tried to delete the Java 2 Runtime Environment se v1.4.2_03, I got the following error;
The Feature you are trying to use is on a
network resource that is unavailable.
Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a
folder containing the installation package 'Java 2
Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03.msi' in the box below.
And then I see a little drop down option for selecting a folder.
If I click "OK", I get the following error, after a few seconds of waiting;
The path 'C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local
Settings\Application
Data\{7148FOA6-6813-11D6-A77B-OOBOD0142030}\Java
2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03.msi' cannot be
found. Verify that you have access to this location and try
again, or try to find the installation package 'Java 2
Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03.msi' in a folder from
which you can install the product Java 2 Runtime
Environment, SE v1.4.2_03.msi
From there, my only option is to click OK
So I move down to Java Auto Updater, and I don't have the ability to remove that at all. Just shows me that it's been used "rarely"
ok...
so I move on down to Java(TM) 6 update 29; and I click to remove that... and it looks like it's removing everything until I get a window that pops up with "Java(TM) 6 update 18 in the blue header (that's 18, not 29) and it says "Internal error 2753.regutils.dll" and when I click "ok" I get a "fatal error during installation message"
I'm not sure how to proceed.

Try this,
Download & install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility from here:
|MG| Windows Installer CleanUp Utility 7.2 Download
Run it to produce a list of your applications which were installed from an .msi package.
Select the installed Java version that won't uninstall, then click "Remove".
Let me know.

The cleanup utility worked. When they were all removed, I went ahead and installed jre-7-windows-i586.exe.
When that was finished, I updated adobe as suggested.
