Default spyware scanners crash my PC

does anybody know if there is a free virus scanner i can download that won't crash ?

malwarebytes always crashes, avg, avast, you name it,

also, it would be great if there existed a virus scanner that did not take up all my system resources, during the scan, so that i could really do other work on the pc,

    something like,

    processor resources:

    virus scanner = 50%

    word for windows = 10%

    thanks very much,

    larry

Have you tried running those scanners in Safemode? Scanners will take up alot of resources because they are scanning every file including ones you may be trying to access thus the slow down.

    Now reboot into Safe Mode.
This can be done tapping the F8 key as soon as you start your computer
You will be brought to a menu where you can choose to boot into safe mode.
Make sure you choose the option without networking support.
Please see here for additional details.

want CPU to only run at 50% during a spyware scan, that way i can do other stuff on the computer while the endless scanning continues,

also, what is a good free scanner that i can check certain folders at a time on,

spybot seemed to just make my pc much slower, so i removed it,

pc is much faster for web surfing now, possibly spybot had some firewall going and clashing with my comodo firewall, so difficult to find spybot active this and that stuff, so i just removed spybot altogether,

i have windows 7, and the Comodo firewall running,

When a scanner scans it uses up resources and it scanning everything therefore it will slow your machine way down and even freeze the machine if it is trying to scan the same file that you are using. Please run the following programs by them selves until they finish then post there logs.

    1.
    Download AdwCleaner
    • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
***Note: Windows Vista and Windows 7 users:
Right click in the adwCleaner.exe and select
      "Run as administrator"
    • Click the Scan button.
    • A logfile will automatically open after the scan has finished.
    • Please post the content of that logfile in your next reply.
    • Or you can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[R1].txt.

    2.
    • Download RogueKiller on the desktop
    • Close all the running processes
    • Under Vista/Seven, right click -> Run as Administrator
    • Otherwise just double-click on RogueKiller.exe
    • When prompted, Click Scan
    • A report should open, give its content to your helper. (RKreport could also be found next to the executable)
    • If RogueKiller has been blocked, do not hesitate to try a few times more. If really won't run, rename in winlogon.exe (or winlogon.com) and try again
