I read the postings related to this topoic but I can't seem to find the "Internet Update" program in Add/Remove Program or the "Security" setting in Control Panel->Display.
I had clicked on "Uninstall" when the trojan put up a fake warning message. Nothing seemed to happened. Then I went online to look for removal tools - just found XoftSpy and although I'm alittle skeptical of this tool, I installed it and ran it. It found a bunch of stuff, but the list doesn't look right so I decided not to remove the "threats". Next thing I found was www.sophos.com but this site requires registration, them contacting me first, etc., etc.,
Microsoft AntiSpyware is useless. I ran Ad-Aware and removed some cookies. Don't think this fixed anything. I have a HijackThis log but I thought I'd asked you what tool to use to remove the trojan first.
Your help is much appreciated.
------ Updated Info -------------------
I unchecked the "Desktop Uninstall" box in the Display -> Desktop - Customize Desktop -> Web tab and it worked! The white background disappeared.
