    Default Shellcon Hidden Window???

    :?
I'm not having any noticable computer problems, other than receiving the message that "ShellconHiddenWindow" is not responding, with the option to "End Now". This happens when restarting or turning off the computer. I don't have a clue what this is, but I am vigilant about keeping adware, spyware, etc. out of my computer. I regularly use Spy Bot, and Lavasoft Ad-aware, and I have McAfee Security Suite scanning regularly as well. I've used Hyjack This on my mom's computer, so I'm going to download it and use it just in case anyone wants to see it. I'm always curious when I don't recognize things if it's something bad or not!

I have a Dell Dimension 4550, and I use Windows XP Home; not sure what else you might need to know...

If anyone can help me out, I'll appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

P.S. I also occasionally get a window that says something like, "Cleaning Surf Records" with a progress bar. It doesn't cause a problem, but I don't have any idea what it is. I should also mention that my sister-in-law lives with us and uses my computer A LOT, so I don't always know what might be installed, etc.

    Thanks again!

    Scan results:

Panda Active Scan would not delete the files it found; since most of them were cookies, I deleted all cookies and temporary internet files.

Housecall required me to install Java, but then was unable to scan for some reason.

CW scan successful, no problems found

Spybot scan successful, no problems found

Ad-aware scan successful, no problems found

Downloaded and ran Windows Defender successfully, no problems found

Checked for Windows Updates, no new ones since the last ones I did

Again, I'm mainly looking for whatever this "ShellconHiddenWindow" is, and anything else suspicious or unnecessary.
Also, I am wondering how I can find out what programs are running at start up, and how I can keep them from doing so; the only thing I'm interested in having run at startup is McAfee.

    Thanks again!

Do you have any idea what these program are?

    C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\UWAS6_0001_N68M2301NetInstaller.exe

    Audible Download Manager.lnk = C:\Program Files\Audible\Bin\adhelper.exe

    SchoolpopShoppingBuddy

Also I see you have AdwareAlert, when did you down load it ? Only the latest version is considered OK

    Let us know.

Default Thanks BG; here's what I know...

I have no idea what the first program is.

The Audible Download Manager manages audio book downloads from the Audible.com website. It automatically installs when I download books from the site, so I guess I need it, however, I wish it wouldn't run at start up.

School Pop Shopping Buddy is a program I've tried to uninstall several times because I no longer use it, but it won't uninstall because some file is missing according to Add/Remove Software.

I installed Adware Alert today I think (I don't remember how I ended up on their website to scan for spyware), but when it wouldn't delete the files it detected without having me purchase their software, I uninstalled it. Apparently not all the files were deleted...

    Hope this helps,
    Thanks!

Reboot the PC in the Safe Mode

    SAFE MODE:

safe mode<<< Click Here for instructions

Check the following files to have HJT fix:

O1 - Hosts: comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NI.UWAS6_0001_N68M2301] "C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\UWAS6_0001_N68M2301NetInstaller.exe" -nag

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AdwareAlert] C:\Program Files\AdwareAlert\AdwareAlert.Exe -boot

    O8 - Extra context menu item: Schoolpop - file://C:\Program Files\SchoolpopShoppingBuddy\System\Temp\schoolpop_script0.htm

    Check the fix check button

    Close the HJT Program

    Still in the safe mode find and delete the following;

    C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\
    UWAS6_0001_N68M2301NetInstaller.exe
    ... File

    C:\Program Files\AdwareAlert...Folder

    C:\Program Files\schoolpopShoppingBuddy...Folder

    Re boot the PC.

Post another log, be sure to tell us if things are better.

    HI

just a bit of extra info...

    THis entry ...

O1 - Hosts: comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual

Is not bad... just written wrong ...

this line in your hosts file looks like this :-

comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual

it should look like this :-

    # comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual

Leave it, fix it, correct the line in your hosts file ... it doesn't matter...

    ---
    This :-

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NI.UWAS6_0001_N68M2301] "C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\UWAS6_0001_N68M2301NetInstaller.exe" -nag

    is the errorsafe installer

Default New problem...Hijack This Log included

I've done all the things recommended, except that I could not find the schoolpopShoppingBuddy folder to delete it; I did a completely detailed windows explorer search for it but found nothing.
Today, when I first opened Internet Explorer it opened on the Microsoft Security page which said, "Malicious Software Removal Tool Has Changed Your Homepage". It suggested finding my homepage and setting it back like I wanted it. I did that and also ran Spybot S&D, Ad-aware, and McAfee Virus Scan, but later on it still did the same thing. :x grrrr...

Well, here is my hijack this log:

    Default Thanks! One more question...

Microsoft Security failed to tell me what it was changing to, but I fixed it; I just didn't do it right the first time!

My question is about the Shellcon Hidden Window (see my original post). I still have no idea what this is, or the "Cleaning Surfing Records" thing either. Although I think maybe the "cleaning surfing records" has something to do with Internet Explorer deleting the temporary files and cookies when the browser is closed (I chose that option).

Any ideas? Or, should I post a new topic in the general computer help forum?

I really appreciate everyone's help; I'm going to donate right now!
    Rhonda
