Default Please help me get rid of Downlader-PS!

    Hello,
I believe that some spyware/adware/viruses were accidentally downladed onto my computer. I am not certain but I believe the problem may be Downloader-PS. It is causing annoying pop-ups and my system has become unstable.

I have run Spybot, Ad-aware, and have done several virus scans. These scans appear to rid the virus but then it comes right back.

I am posting my Hijack This log below and would appreciate anyones help.

    Thanks,
    Kimzer

    HI

I see you have run hijackthis 4 times, each time from inside the zip file without unzipping it first ...wrong...

First put hijackthis into a permanent folder... here's how :-

PLease do this first - go to C: and create a new permanent folder (call it hijackthis) ...Then put (or download - choose "save" not "run") the hijackthis.exe file in it (You must unzip it if it's zipped)...... so you have C:\hijackthis\hijackthis.exe.....then run hijackthis by clicking this .exe file -that way you will have backups if you accidentally remove the wrong item ( running from a temporary folder it will not be able to create backups )

Or if you find that difficult to follow....

Download a self-extracting copy of HijackThis from :-
    http://downloads.malwareremoval.com/hijackthis_sfx.exe
    1. save it to your Desktop.
    2. Double-click on the file hijackthis_sfx.exe and it will self-extract into its own folder,
    C:\Program Files\HijackThis
    3. Go to this folder and run the hijackthis.exe file

    Then...

Disconnect from the internet Close ALL browser windows (including this one) - run hijackthis and tick to fix (check the box next to) the list below.........when all are ticked (checked) click the Fix Checked button at the bottom. :-

    O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Windows.hta

Reboot...find and delete this file :-

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\Microsoft Windows.hta ... file

    Post a new hijackthis log...

    cheers

    Dear Steam,

Thank you for your help. I moved hijackthis to a permanent folder and followed your instructions, however, I could not find the file microsoft windows.hta to delete. Upon rebooting the same pop-up reappeared. The new copy of my hijackthis log is pasted below. I really do appreciate your help. Really!

Why haven't installed at least SP1a for both XP and IE ? Please go here:

    http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

Install updates. Do not install SP2 at this time, until we make sure your HJT log is clean.

    HI

    Your hijackthis log is clean...

Please let me have some more information about the popup...

    Describe it...

    What does it say ?

Does it give you a url ?

Is there a filename or location ?

I have run Spybot, Ad-aware, and have done several virus scans. These scans appear to rid the virus but then it comes right back.
Post the Spybot & Ad-aware logs, so that I can see what we are dealing with...
