Default Can't Get Rid Of The Spywarequake 'virus Alert!' Tray Icon

    Hi,

I was recently infected with the SpywareQuake program and I did everything according to this 'How to remove SpywareQuake' guide, but still the blinking red-green 'Virus Alert!' icon won't go away.

    HI

This is the only remaining bad entry in your log :-

    O2 - BHO: Nothing - {8d83b16e-0de1-452b-ac52-96ec0b34aa4b} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp6E52.tmp (file missing)

did you do the automatic or manual removal from BleepingComputer ?

Pleasepost any of the logs you have...

    smitrem.txt
    pandascan
    ewido (run from safemode)

You have some good programs there ... spysweeper & ewido ... but please go here and also run any of the programs mentioned which you have not allready run... I believe spybot will remove the remnants of the desktop hijacker for you....

    Hi

deflowd has just posted to say he got rid of it after several scans with ewido ... so please run ewido again (from safemode) and let us know.

also if it matters in terms of determining the true root of the problem, the notice also comes up in safe mode, it was the only icon. It disappeared after I returned to normal mode.

    Default Spyware Quake Removal

I also had this hard to remove malware on my P.C. and tried many ways to remove it including AVG ( latest definition ) Adaware SE, SmitRem, SmitFraud, HijackThis ( removed everything I couldn't verify was needed ! ), and even several dedicated small scripts dedicated to removing it, but the mischevous little sod obviously has been released in many forms, and it still remained.

I downloaded LATEST version of Ewido from Ewido.net ( this is a 14 day free trial, after which you need to pay to get updates ) and that did the trick ( as previous post, run in safe mode if possible ),

press F8 key on P.C. as it starts up & displays the BIOS screen to get list of Windows Start options & choose Safe Mode.
