Default Proxy automatically reconfigures when browser is shutdown...

    Hi folks,

First time to post...always hoped I'd never have to!

But, here goes...I'm using Mozilla Firefox, and everytime I close the program down and restart, the Manual Proxy Configuration kicks in with a HTTP proxy address that I've discovered is in Jordan! (I'm in Ireland btw, as is my ISP)

I've tried imposing an Automatic Proxy Configuration URL given to me by my ISP, but to no avail. Once the programs restarts, it simply reverts to the aforementioned Jordanian proxy location.

I've since used Trend Micro and MicroWorld's eScan to wipe the PC clean of unwanted visitors, but this little sh*t has prevailed.

So, does anyone know of a virus/trojan that is scripted to do this? And/or how to stop it?

    Thanks in advance folks.
    Cheers,
    Juebec

First off it appears that you are running possible 2 anti virus programs. Can't run two, need to select on or the other.

I see that your IP is 87.198.193.xxx which is Magnet Networks Limited

The 017 entry shows NameServer = 217.67.140.90 217.67.143.10 comes back to Infrastructure

Both are in Dublin so they should be OK.

The rest of the log appears to be clean.

Did you run the things I ask ? Some of those things will appear in your HJT and they are not.

    Hey again,

Sorry for not getting back sooner.

So, here is the latest log.

I tried to run Panda, but got nothing other than script errors, so opted for the Trend option instead. I've also run all of the other programs that you requested.

The line that stands out for me is: "R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = 194.165.130.93:80" as this is the proxy that my settings are being drawn to. Even when I try to change or delete this information, it returns when I shutdown the Firefox window.

Also, this might seem like a strange question, but could a Trojan/Virus be responsible for my broadband connection to start connecting at 1Mbps instead of 3Mbps, or do you think that it is just a line problem?

Again, any help would be very much appreciated.

Well you did a better job than I did looking at the log

You right that is the problem.

Have you tried the standard HJT fix: Disconnect from the internet, close all browser windows including this one. Check the following to have HJT fix:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = 194.165.130.93:80

Press the fixed check button. Close the HJT reboot the PC.

Run another HJT scan. Is it still there ?

    Therein lies the problem.

I "fixed" the problem with HJT. Disconnected from the internet; closed all browser windows. Checked it. Fixed it. And reboot.

When the system restarted, I ran HJT and the line was gone.

So then, as a test, I decided to open IE, and close it after it had fully loaded my homepage.

    After this, I re-ran HJT, and low and behold, R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = 194.165.130.93:80 was back!

    Any ideas?

If it helps, here is the updated HJT log after I attempted to delete the R1 entry.

    Thanks...

Still looks you have at least remnants of more than one anti virus.

Is your firewall up to date ? Did you the program like spybot and adaware?

Steam will have an answer for you.

Yep. Well, I thought I had. I completely removed Trend from the system, leaving Kaspersky as my stand-alone anti-virus program.

And yes, firewall is up to date.

Ran Spybot S&D which found alot of unwanted files, aswell as Adaware.

But even after all of that, the problem continues...

...Basementgeek...thanks for your help so far...hopefully we can get this resolved soon...it's driving me nuts!!!
