Sorry to hear about the suspected ID theft.

First thing you must do is get on another PC and change all passwords for all your personal accounts. Don't use this PC for anything for places that are for "Money"

To be totally honest if you suspected, in anyway, that it was your PC that gave up personal information, it should never be trusted again. Your safest thing to do is to format and reinstall of the operating system/drivers/application.

There is no way we can ever really be sure that we got everything.

I am not seeing a Firewall -are you using XP firewall? If so it is the next best thing having none at all.

Also see that this PC has been doing file sharing

Here is what blubster has to say about their service:

Data Security - P2P software programs let users share information with other users around the globe. They allow users to view the contents of each others' "shared folders." If you have personal information in your shared folder, anyone else using the same P2P software has access to it. Another user could use that information to commit identity theft, or to embarrass you. Please pay attention to the files that you place in, or download to, your shared folder. Don't put information in your shared folder that you aren't comfortable sharing with strangers.

In particular, do not put tax, medical, banking, correspondence or any other sensitive personal files in the same folder as files that are shared via your P2P software program.
Lets us know how want to try and take care of this.

    BG

I just got back from the bank, and sorted everything out with my credit card. In the past two months there was only a two charges at 21.95 and the person I talked with said they think that this was not a case of ID theft because there are no other charges and that it is more then likely a clerical error.

I am not sure what this file sharing thing is on my computer....maybe it is the thing Win XP has for the other user accounts on the pc....but mine is the only one.

    Hi

Your hijackthis log is more or less clean ...

Disconnect from the internet Close ALL browser windows (including this one) - run hijackthis and tick to fix (check the box next to) the list below.........when all are ticked (checked) click the Fix Checked button at the bottom. :-

This is the file sharing program on your computer :-

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Blubster] C:\Program Files\Blubster\Blubster.exe SILENT

Either you or someone else downloaded it to your computer... it has nothing to do with XP

I think I am using the Widows Defender Firewall....I check and its on not sure why it did nto show up.
Windows Defender does not have a Firewall... you may have Windows Defender & be using the windows firewall, but they are 2 different applications ...

Oh also when I run Spybot S&D it never seems to get rid of something called www.coolwebsearch somthing along those lines....what is that about?
It looks like a cookie, but if you can post the spybot log for me, I'll check it out ...

    HI

    You certainly can ...

Go to add\remove programs on the Control panel, if you find it in the list ... uninstall it ... if it's not there, let us know
