    Default blinking hourglass problem

hi, ive had this blinking hourglass problem for a week or two, and ive been trying to get rid of it. it makes it harder to play online games or run other programs. ive run adaware, spybot search and destroy, and webroot spy sweeper. ive quarantined and fixed all the problems those found, but it still persisted. i read a few posts here about this problem, and ran hijackthis. after that, i dont know what to do. please help !

Hi, I was just wondering if I did something wrong with my post, because I read that you don't respond to posts if I didn't supply enough detail etc. ive noticed that you have reponded to people today that posted later than me. If this is the case, than can you please tell me so i can fix it or make a new post. Im just sitting here waiting for an answer, and would really like to fix this. Unless this is a problem that you happen to not know about, then that is fine.

Thank you very much if u end up helping me

    Hi jackanese:

Please don't feel that you were over looked, you were not.

Understand that HJT logs are hard to work on. At times it is better to try to finish a log or two before starting on a new one. We actually try to remember some ones problem than take on some else's problem and remember them also.

I, my self look at the logs, if their answer is fairly simple, I will answer them first and get them out of the way.

    Back to your problem.....

I see 8 entries that are unknowns, relating to Spybot. I have no clue what they are.

Please post another HJT, as I want to see if they are still there.

    BG

Not really seeing any in the HJT log. The entries relating to Spybot are gone. Where you running spybot scan when you ran the HJT scan?

Only a couple left over entries/clutter(file missing)

By chance did you have a problem with pop ups. The reason I ask is that one 020 comes back as a Vundo infection.

Disconnect from the internet, close all browser windows, including this one.

Run another HJT scan and check the following files, to have HJT fix:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: ssttr - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssttr.dll (file missing)

Press the fixed check button. Close the HJT program. Re boot the PC.

    Next.......

Find and delete the following if you find it:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssttr.dll ...file

    Next..........

Open you task manager, right click a empty place on your task bar. Select
Task Manager, click on it. Under the process tab, at the bottom, what is your CPU usage ? If the total CPU usage is over, say 7%, what are the those entries?

While still in the task manager click on the application tab, anything strange there?

    Post a new HJT log.

You have 31 programs starting from startup run keys alone, this is bound to be a strain on resources unless you have a LOT of RAM

I would run Ccleaner & stop a lot of those programs you don't need running all the time, start them manually, when you need them.

What processes are using a lot of resources ?

We will get you to stop some of your start items, after we finish the above.
