I think we are talking about the same thing here, but not sure.

http://www.leeos.com/cdrom_list_creator.html

I use a program, very small, it is a CD Rom list creator. Does not just work word with CD, but with all folders, if I want to print a list if what is in any file.

Just right click on the folder, after you install the program, and left click on "Directory list"

I followed the instructions. I opened regedit and went to the HKEY... section. I click on the Edit Menu and there is no Modify. I can't type in none. Now when I double click on the folder I get the search window oening. Please help. Thanks, Bob.

Familton, you need to left click once on the default icon. Then modify appears in your edit menu.

For all, this is a neat little program with very clear instructions. Thanks to Whooze!

I haven't tried any of the recommended software for directory listings and if they are recursive or not (able to list directories/files inside other directories all at once) but, it is possible to get a single directory listing just by using the command prompt....here's how.

Open command prompt (start menu | run | type "cmd" (no quotes) | hit "ok"

Then browse to the folder you want to be in. Then do a DIR command (which lists contents of the directory you're currently in) and put the output into a file instead of on screen.. Let's do an example. So say for instance I wanted to know what folders and files are in the C:\program files\ directory. I would open a command prompt then do this...

Code:

CD C:\Program Files (or CD C:\Progra~1) [enter]
DIR > programs.txt [enter]

I would then browse to that folder with Windows Explorer and open programs.txt to view what's in it.

You can also go to a command prompt and do this command
Code:

DIR /?

to show a list of options to use with the dir command. I.E. Only output Directories, only output files, display contents of directory alphabetically...etc etc.

It's just a way to do it without downloading any 3rd party software....

You can also try Directory Lister. It has html and text listings and selectable directories.
