If there's one thing you must learn on your computer, it is how to create and maintain backups of your data. I have learned this rule of thumb: any data on my computer doesn't exist unless it exists in at least 2 places. Any important data on my computer (home movies, irreplaceable photos of my kids) doesn't exist unless it exists in THREE places. I highly recommend online backups as a way to keep your data safe.

We're often asked about the best registry cleaner for Windows. It's come up many times in our forums, and folks have asked us for a registry cleaner review. The simple fact is: there is no best registry cleaner. In reality, registry cleaners do very little to improve your system and might do a lot to harm it!

Not too long ago, I discovered that people found a way to install Mac OS X on netbooks. It struck me as a wonderful idea, as I have drooled over the notion of a Mac netbook for many months. But until Apple obliges us with a new product, creating a "hackintosh" netbook is the only way to do it. So I plunked down $250 this week for a Dell Vostro A90.

HijackThis is a powerful tool that can help you figure out what is running on your computer. Many computer help forums such as ours use the output of HijackThis (called a HijackThis log) to help us understand what may be causing your PC to misbehave. Here's how to create a HijackThis log.

If you have a fast Internet connection, check out the video version of this tutorial here.

Note: HijackThis is a powerful tool that can severely change the software running on your PC. You should only run HijackThis if you have followed the directions in our Get Rid of Spyware Guide, or if instructed to do so by an expert in our Spyware Help Forum.
