The DCOMBobulator

by ricog
September 14, 2003

Steve Gibson - a really excellent programmer and all around genius has done it again! The recent spate of Windows DCOM (distributed component object model) related vulnerabilities from Microsoft has really made my life as a Security pro difficult.

I would like to suggest that everyone who has an NT-derived variant of Windows (i.e. NT 4.0, 2000, XP or 2003) check out and use the excellent DCOMBobulator program that Steve has posted on his site.

This does not mean that you should not do the updates for the Blaster/Nachi vulnerability or the latest September the 10 bug, but it is a good additional step to protect your computer.

Also I advise everyone to read the host of good articles and try the excellent programs that Steve hosts on his site at http://www.grc.com such as "UnPlug n' Pray" and Shields Up!

Good luck!
