Many folks with Dell laptops have found an item in Add/Remove programs called 924PLC32. What is it? And can it be removed?

Dell disavows any knowledge of this entry in your PC, but numerous reports state that this is pre-installed on many Dell laptops. Add/Remove Programs says that it is 4GB in size, but it will refuse to remove it if you try. So what's up?

Unfortunately, since Dell is keeping its mouth shut, and everyone else with 924PLC32 is unsure what it might be, we are down to 2 explanations:

Explanation #1:
It is related to a Dell 924 printer that shipped with Inspiron laptops around the same time. The 4GB size is bogus - it is not really that big, and the Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs function is reporting the size incorrectly (something that it often does).

Explanation #2:
It is a 4GB hidden partition, probably created by Symantec to restore your PC to its default state in case something goes terribly wrong. It may be a Dell partition, but again, they are quiet on the matter.

Of course, these are two very different theories. If you know of the correct solution, please let us know in the forums, the Contact Us page, or by email. If you'd like, feel free to search the web again for more info. Below are some links that talk about 924PLC32:
