Have you ever wanted to find ET with your pc? Cure cancer? Cure HIV? Fold proteins? or even track weather patterns? Well, then read this! Your computer has lots of IDLE CPU and ram (hopefully) like when it is waiting for you to type, etc.

Well here's the overview. I know of some programs that you could run that are free and some may even make you money.

DNET:
Distributed.net cracks codes for RSA Security labs and the computer that cracks it wins 10 thousand dollars. Pretty cool, huh?
visit http://www.distributed.net

SETI@home:
Seti@home analyzes satellite data from arebico to find extra terrestrial activity with your PC. It runs as a screen saver or as a background application and it suitable for modem users.
Visit http://setiathome.berkeley.edu for more info

United Devices:
This application used to cure cancer, but now its trying at small pox. This program may be a screen saver or a background application and is great for modem users. I can gurantee you one thing, science will never be boring again with this screen saver.
http://www.grid.org is where to go for more.

Fight AIDS at Home:
Yes kinda interesting, the name explains it all. Visit http://www.entropia.com/join.asp#faah for more info.

More distributed computing programs:
