The latest version of the Nero CD/DVD burning suite, Nero 8, installs a media database component called Nero Scout. This also adds several entries to your Windows startup which can hog system resources. Nero Scout has also been reported to cause all sorts of problems in Windows and with Nero. In this article we'll tell you how to disable Nero Scout.

Luckily, Ahead Software realized the mess they made with Nero 7's Scout , so disabling it in version 8 is much simpler.

From their web site:

You can either disable Nero Scout completly or you can only remove the “search” option from the task bar.

  • Open "My Computer", make a right click on "Nero Scout", select "options".
  • Uncheck the box “enable Nero Scout” in order to disable Nero Scout.
