The guard.tmp file is an indication of the Look2Me malware. Norton and many other anti-virus tools may identify guard.tmp as a virus, but may not remove it. This tutorial is for the removal of the guard.tmp infection using only free software tools.

Step 1: Download and Run Look2Me-Destroyer

First, download Look2Me-Destroyer here. Follow the instructions on that page to run Look2Me-Destroyer.

After Look2Me-Destroyer has finished running, and your computer has rebooted, move on to the next step.

Step 2: Online Virus Scanners and more

Next, go through the steps in our Get Rid of Spyware guide. At the very least, please run through Step 1 in that guide, the online virus scanners. But you will be much better off if you follow all of the instructions in that guide.

Malware tends to run in packs. If something has told you have the guard.tmp infection, chances are you have other malware infections as well. The only way to be sure is to run through all the steps in the Get Rid of Spyware guide.
