The Firefox Download Window Has Disappeared!

Recently, we had a question in our forums that had us stumped for a couple of days. Whenever someone tried to download a file with Firefox, the Download window would not appear! When they clicked on the Tools menu and chose Downloads, nothing would happen.

Help2Go regular contributor mart44 found the solution:

  • Close Firefox
  • In Windows Explorer, find your Firefox profiles folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxx\ (xxxxxxx is a string of random letters and numbers).
  • Delete the file called Downloads.rdf
  • Restart Firefox

Thanks mart44 for finding this solution! You can find more information on Downloads.rdf at Mozillazine. And if you don't like the Downloads window, I highly recommend the Download Statusbar add-on for Firefox.
