TechRepublic has created an excellent tutorial that tells you how to create a bootable USB thumb drive with a specialized build of Windows on it. Carrying around a USB flash drive with Windows is an excellent way to be completely prepared to fix a PC. However, only recent PCs will be able to boot from a USB drive - for older PCs, try our tutorial on creating a Windows Rescue CD.
